Le joli collectif is a story. A story woven around the careers of directors, writers and performers, as well as administrators and producers. A collective of energies and desires whose orientations point towards research and experimentation linked to the political and the intimate. In January 2023, Le joli collectif was appointed director of Théâtre L'Aire Libre in St-Jacques de la lande, near Rennes in France, for 5 years. It is now responsible for the artistic direction of this venue, as well as for the production and distribution of the artistic projects of Vincent Collet. Le joli collectif has been coordinator of the R.O.M - Residencies On the Move network since 2019.
Théâtre l'Aire Libre is a stage dedicated to contemporary writing. With its roots firmly planted in the local area, it is a haven for artistic research, risk-taking and stage experimentation, and supports artists whether they are creating for the stage, immersing themselves in the local area or working with audiences. The Théâtre L'Aire Libre was built in 1991 at the instigation of the town of St-Jacques de la Lande, which wanted to offer its residents a cultural venue. Located near an airport, and close to the city of Rennes, the aim was to provide a place for life, exchanges and cultural activities in the district. The Théâtre L'Aire Libre has several spaces: a stage for shows, a room for different types of events (performances, conferences, rehearsals, exhibitions, screenings, local association events, etc.), a studio for rehearsals and a house for artists' accommodation.
Jenny Dodge and Vincent Collet are co-directors of this theater, with a project focused on plural scenic writing, research, scenic risk-taking, mutual experience, multidisciplinarity and contemporary forms. The project is in keeping with the history of the site, which is strongly linked to creation. It's a lively venue, a performance factory that's particularly rooted in and open to the local area, accessible to all audiences, including the very young. The Théâtre L'Aire Libre, a major venue in the Rennes metropolitan area, is home to artistic research, risk-taking, trials and an office for companies. It works with many of the region's cultural partners, and is involved at the local level in raising awareness and educating different audiences. It is recognized for its many initiatives to bring artists and local residents closer together, and develops partnerships with local organizations and associations. Artistic and cultural education projects have also been developed with several schools.
Théâtre L'Aire Libre, a complementary stage in the Rennes metropolis, is home to hybrid aesthetics ranging from theater to dance, performance, circus and young audiences. Le joli collectif, as part of its artistic project at the Théâtre l'Aire Libre, delegated public service, is supported by the Ville de St-Jacques de la Lande, the Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication - DRAC Bretagne, the Région Bretagne and the Département d'Ille-et-Vilaine.
