Concept

Mutualization and complementarity

The network R.O.M is built around partners who have privileged relationships based on common characteristics and values. R.O.M teams are willing to exchange on their practices, their working methods, and to share their respective experiences in order to improve and innovate in their missions. This is part of the life of the network and helps to strengthen the teams thanks to the principle of mutual aid. This pooling of resources and skills strengthens everyone's support and allows the partners and the artists they accompany to evolve on both a national and international level. R.O.M's desire to open up, which has grown from 3 to 6 structures in 5 different countries, is reflected in the desire to offer a diversity of residency opportunities and to be anchored in a long-term project.

To offer tailor-made residencies and to promote the circulation of artists

The choice of artists supported by the network is based on recommendations from one partner to another. In this way, the partners ensure that the collaboration makes sense for the project, and that they can meet its needs.

Charter

Liberty of searching

To propose research residencies without any obligation to present a form whatsoever. To leave time to the artists without obligation to produce, to show a stage of work etc... but to leave them the possibility to do it if they wish it.

Circulation

In the idea of circulation, an artist/project will not be hosted by the partner of its own country in the framework of R.O.M. Example: a Belgian project will not be in residency at the Balsamine within the framework of R.O.M. However, nothing prevents it from being hosted in another framework. The goal here is circulation, and to avoid duplication: not having two work moments in the same place when it could have one elsewhere. Encourage the reception of artists from the entire R.O.M network (past, present or future) for periods of visibility: these may be artists in residency at the venue or who will be, but also artists in residency elsewhere. The projects presented can either be former finalized projects or a new creation.

Tailor made / meaning

Always keep the needs of the projects in the forefront. The association between a venue and a project is always designed according to the needs and characteristics of the project. The idea is for the opportunity to work elsewhere to be meaningful for the project, to bring something to it. The partners are attentive to this when programming residencies and performances within the network.

Support

Open the network to artists who are not necessarily part of the partners’ circle of support at the moment. It can be artists that the theater has supported in the past and who will not be supported for some time, or who has never been supported but whose project could be developed by one or more partners.

Diversity

No selection criteria for the projects who can be of all disciplines and for all audiences.

Care

The partners share the common characteristic of taking great care in their relations with the artists, from the initial exchanges to their reception at the venue, right through to the follow-up of their careers. This care is also important within the partners' own teams and between partners. The term "network of friend theaters" takes on its full meaning thanks to this commitment.

Operating

Governance structure

The network operates on an egalitarian basis. Each partner has an equal role and decision-making power, with the exception of financial decisions concerning European grants, which do not concern our non-european associated partners. For organizational reasons, a coordinator is appointed from among the partners.
