Le Grütli – CPDAV (a funny and unpronounceable acronym) is a place for theater, dance, and even performance art, all of which have been nurtured in the minds and hearts of local artists, from this very corner of the world. With occasional forays into other territories, just to see what’s happening elsewhere. Sometimes it's a blend of different disciplines, as this art form has always been nourished by other practices, since the time of its birth. We love shows of today (or contemporary shows, though apparently, that's a dirty word!), works that speak of the here and now, that look at our world with irony, humor, critical insight, that knead it, twist it, and stretch it. The result is something that may leave you slightly changed, inspired, annoyed, amazed, but never indifferent. That’s what the Living Arts are all about.
We do many other things at Le Grütli. Artists come to work in the four spaces we offer them: the Salle du Bas, the Salle du Haut, as well as the Gueuloir and La Terrasse. These artists are in residence, just like you would welcome someone into your home for a while, to let them rest, reflect, think, or create something new, recharge. They’re here to work, because being an artist is a constant, relentless job that needs support, guidance, a friendly eye, and a place to settle in and share a meal.
This building, the House of the Arts of Le Grütli, is also a place of passage, of buzzing activity; there’s dancing in the halls and studios, typing on keyboards in the many offices, drawing, painting, sculpting in the workshops on the third floor, films are screened in the cinema rooms, and we gather to eat at the café. You can also come here to seek shelter from a sudden downpour, or quickly dash through it to jump on the tram 15 at the tram stop 12.
On Mondays, we open the foyer of the Salle du Haut to anyone who wants to come and work, ask questions, untangle a problem, or meet with others... It’s the Bureau des Compagnies, open to all artists (and others too). Here, you’ll find Marc, Donatien, Marilù, Laura, Lise, Joana, Tamara, or Vincent, all available to lend a hand, offer a tip, share good advice, explain how certain things work.
And let's not forget collective moments like readings, roundtables, and discussions; because a theater is a place of life, a protected space where you can meet exceptional people for exceptional moments that amplify or even shake up the post-show experience.
Finally, we could also talk about impromptu parties, long-planned events, crazy concerts, and nights that stretch on...
In short, Le Grütli is a place of creativity, a living space open to all, without distinction; a place to love and live without moderation, because here, it’s your home.
