Butchers
Butchers was born from the discovery of an etymology: Hasapikos, a Greek folk dance, which literally means butchers' dance. This tradition originated in Constantinople within the Arvanite butchers guild, an ethnic group of Albanian origin. Butchers investigates this etymology by rediscovering the steps that create the rhythmic sequence of meat cutting, trying to get to that common core whereby dance/rhythm and butchery could originate and originate a dance. By subtracting any object directly related to meat cutting, this work aims to focus on bodies bearing the marks of a practice, making them performers/interpreters of this dance.
