In November Dominique Gilliot is invited to develop an artistic residency at Teatro Il Lavatoio in Santarcangelo within the programme of R.O.M. Residencies in the Move, supported by Creative Europe.

Is it possible to imagine a performance that will keep starting over and over again? If the performance keeps starting over and over again, does this mean it will never end? If the performance never ends, will the audience get bored and leave? As this residency is to be experienced as being one of the researching kind, Dominique Gilliot has decided to start from an honest scratch as the absolute beginner that they most certainly are and will try and work on this notion of absolute beginning. This starting point is to be read as what it is: it’s coming from nowhere, and it’s going we don’t know where.

Ongoing creation

Between pop culture and pop philosophy, Dominique Gilliot develops work that deconstructs certain codes and values that seem self-evident with humor and poetry. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts in Cergy-Pontoise and a postgraduate of the Beaux-Arts in Lyon, Dominique Gilliot has performed in numerous contemporary art venues in France (Centre Pompidou Paris, Frac Île-de-France, Ferme du Buisson, Jeu de Paume, Subsistances in Lyon, Friche de la Belle de Mai in Marseille, Parc Saint Léger) and abroad (Brussels, Mudam in Luxembourg, Human Resources and Machine Project in Los Angeles, Pinacoteca São Paulo). In recent years, they have shifted their performance practice toward live theater, notably performing for Halory Goerger in Corps Diplomatique (2015/17) and for Tomas Gonzales and Igor Cardellini in L'Age d'Or (2021- ). They are an associate artist at the Ménagerie de Verre in 2019 with the shows À propos de... and Différentes choses for which they are collaborating with Antoine Pesle (on musical creation) and Juliette Chaigneau (on staging) with which they also create France anodine in 2023.
