Tímavilla (working title)
Tímavilla (working title) is an eight-hour endurance piece by choreographer Rósa Ómarsdóttir and visual artist Anna Rún Tryggvadóttir, in collaboration with the Iceland Dance Company and composer Úlf Hansson. Blending installation and performance, the piece combines raw natural elements, sculpture, and the dancers’ physical presence. It draws on ideas from philosophy and anthropology to create a shifting, sensory landscape. The work challenges Western notions of linear time, classification, and dualism—exploring how these ideologies disconnect us from nature. Inspired by Tim Ingold’s view of landscape as a living mesh, Tímavilla highlights natural processes like decay, melting, and growth, as well as magnetic and geological forces. The piece invites audiences into an ecosystem of movement, resisting binary thinking and proposing new ways to relate to matter, time, and each other through embodied, material transformation.
During the residency, we will focus on developing Tímavilla through physical and scenographic research. Using the residency space as a laboratory, we will explore movement inspired by natural processes such as decay, growth, and geological transformation, while experimenting with materials, objects, and sound to shape a living scenographic environment. We are also interested in building connections with artists and professionals from other fields—such as ecology and physics—to deepen the conceptual and material scope of the work. We would be interested in concluding the residency with a sharing, to open up our process and engage in dialogue around the ideas at the core of the piece
